Teletherapy: how to

From the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve offered therapy through a virtual connection

Currently, our therapists are offering either/or/both live in-office therapy and teletherapy. Discuss your options with your therapist.

We use Google Meet, Doxy.me, or the Teletherapy option within the Therapy Notes portal to provide you with confidential services. All three are secure and available. Your therapist will work with you to determine which is best for you to connect; often one will serve as backup to the other. The following is a basic how-to:

GOOGLE MEET. If your session is being provided on Google Meet you will need to download Google Chrome on your computer or the Google Meet app on your smart phone. If you have a Google account, you can login. You do not need to create an account if you do not already have one. Your therapist will email you a link to connect you to the online meeting. Click the link to join the session

If you have not joined the session after 5 minutes your therapist may try to call you using a Google Meet phone number. By answering the call, you will have access to the meeting audio.

Although the Google Meet option may appear more complex than Doxy, it may be preferred for a number of reasons. Primarily, if you plan to meet with multiple people (multiple You Therapy therapists, distant family therapy), this is our best option.

Therapy Notes. If you are starting with You Therapy for the first time on or after March 2022, you should have access to the Patient Portal with Therapy Notes. If that’s the case, you will be emailed instructions to join the link for your session. If you are returning to You Therapy, it may be best to utilize the Patient Portal to update your information and then gain the same access as noted above.

DOXY.ME. You Therapy maintains a virtual office at doxy.me. Upon clicking on the link (https://doxy.me/youtherapy1), you will directly enter You Therapy’s virtual waiting room. From there, your therapist will connect with you. You do not need to create an account.

Tips for a successful Telemedicine session:

  • Use a secure internet connection.

  • Sit in a private room, facing a light, and reduce background noises.

  • Do not run other tabs/apps during your session.

  • Use the most updated software available for your device.

  • Check to make sure your webcam, microphone, and speakers are on.

In the interest of your privacy, we will not have sessions when you are in a public space.
